Wedding DJ Advice – Personalised Napkins

Wedding DJ Advice – Personalised Napkins

Your table decor is one of the most prominent elements for the look of your wedding reception room – by using personalised napkins you can add to the detailing, and add your own personalised spin to your scheme.

Traditionally napkins are rectangular pieces of cloth, commonly cotton or silk, used to wipe your mouth while eating. At weddings and larger gathering of people, disposable paper napkins are often used.

Personalised napkins are available in a wide range of colours to compliment your chosen colour scheme, a variety of sizes and a variety of foil or ink printing.

wedding-dj-advice-personalised-napkinsAs well as adding your own message in your favourite font, you can also have your personalised napkins printed with your own monogram or photo – you are only limited by your imagination and available print area!

Personalised napkins can be printed in one colour, 2 colour or full colour depending upon your requirements.

Personalised printed napkins will add the finishing touch to your wedding reception and reflect the unique nature of your wedding.

There are basically two types of napkins – those that are made of tissue in one , two or three layers and those that are airlaid (linen look) which are thicker than their tissue equivalents and more luxurious.

Napkins are commonly available in several different sizes –

  • banquet – 48 cm square
  • dinner – 40 cm square
  • buffet – 33 cm square
  • cocktail – 25 cm square

The napkins are usually supplied quarter-fold size with your design printed on one side. Your napkins can be displayed as delivered like this or they can be folded to add to their decorative effect such as triangular, crowns or diamonds to fit into  wine glasses.

The printing can be positioned square on or at an angle depending on how the napkins are to be finally folded.

Printing light colours on dark napkins is difficult and might not give satisfactory results however metallic bronze, silver or gold work well.

Personalised printed napkins are also available with embossed boarders around the edge.

Personalised napkins can also make a welcome original present as well for the happy couple and are a unique memento of your special day.

Using Personalised Napkins

Traditionally napkins are folded and placed on the left hand side of the table setting, placed outside of the outermost fork used in the table setting. Alertnatively napkins can be folded into various shapes using ‘origami’ techniques, a napkin ring can be used to hold a personalised napkin or used to bundle up cutlerywhen used with a buffet line up.

Napkin folding has evolved into a specialist craft skill – a Royal Orchid napkin fold was used at the wedding breakfast of Prince William and Catherine – your budget might not extend to employing such a specialist but because of the additional elegence it brings to a table setting – you might want to do some research into the subject for a bit of DIY.

The unfolded napkin is placed onto your lap as your sit down. if the napkin falls on the floor during use, do not pick it up, but signal for the waiter to get you a new one. of course if there are no waiters….. At the end of the meal leave the napkin lossely at the side of your plate – it should not be folded or crumpled. if you have to temporarily leave the dinner table, place your napkin on your seat.

I hope this article has given you a few pointers and some inspiration for an often overlooked table setting detail – there’s more to the humble napkin than meets the eye – paying attention to these small details will add to your special day.

Some of the points above you may not of thought of or may not be bothered about but I like to provide my clients with that little bit more – I provide them with what they want, need and deserve for their reception – it is a special occasion and should be treated as such. Doing it right first time with everything as you want it to be requires an experienced DJ with the right skills and resources that I will bring to your special day.
